  त्रिदेवियों में देवी सरस्वती, महालक्ष्मी और महाकाली हैं.  ये तीनों भी मां दुर्गा के विराट स्वरूप देवी भुवनेश्वरी के ही अंश हैं. इनमें देवी सरस्वती ज्ञान का प्रतीक हैं. उन्हीं का एक स्वरूप है नील सरस्वती. नील सरस्वती, रहस्य विद्या, मायाजाल और इंद्रजाल की देवी हैं.   इसके अलावा संसार में जो योगमाया हैं वह भी उन्हीं का रूप हैं.  मां सरस्वती को सुर, ज्ञान और कला में निपुण माना जाता है, वहीं नील सरस्वती को धन-धान्य की देवी भी कहते हैं. चैत्र नवरात्र का समय इनकी पूजा का सही समय होता है नवरात्र में देवी की पूजा महाविद्या स्वरूप में की जाती है.  पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार,  बसंत पंचमी  के दिन ही भगवान शिव ने देवी पार्वती को धन-संपन्न की अधिष्ठात्री देवी होने का वरदान दिया था. इस कारण उनका वर्ण भी नीला हो गया था. इसके बाद से ही उन्हें नील सरस्वती के नाम से पुकारा जाने लगा. श्री नील सरस्वती स्तोत्रम् ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ घोररूपे महारावे सर्वशत्रुवशङ्करी । भक्तेभ्यो वरदे देवि त्राहि मां शरणागतम् ॥ १॥ सुराऽसुरार्चिते देवि सिद्धगन्धर्वसेविते । जाड्यपापहरे देवि त्राहि मां शरणागतम् ॥ २॥ जटाजूटसमायुक्ते
